Iolite is a unique word, derived from the Greek word "ios" meaning, "violet," and "litho" meaning "stone." Sometimes iolite jewelry is known as dichroite, which alludes to the property of two ("di") or more colors showing through a transmitted light. Iolite jewelry is a transparent and usually very clean gem that ranges from light grey blue to yellow grey to deep blue.
