finishing
The the process of "finishing" is a rather broad term implying that the surface of a metal object is somehow changed, or brought to a new surface. There are several basic means to perform this act. The methods chosen depends on the ultimate objective. How is the final product supposed to look?
While there are different finishing objectives, one main objective is the removal of soil on the metal. There are many types of soil and many ways to remove it. Knowing the composition of the soil you are trying to remove determines the appropriate cleaning medium.
The two basic categories of soil are organic and inorganic. Organic soils consist of animal and vegetable oils, fingerprints, mineral oils and waxes. Inorganic soil refers to metallic oxides, abrasive, grinding and polishing residues, lacquer and fused soldering flux.
